Origins of our name " STAMFORD " Dragon and Lion Dance Troupe In 1973, Tuan Mong High School had its first Scout Uniform Group. In those days, scout groups were divided according to the district where they were located. As Tuan Mong High School Scout Group was in the vicinity of Orchard Road , it was designated under the " Newton " district. Several years later, there were some restructuring in the Scout Headquarters, and subsequently, " Newton " district was changed to " Stamford " district.
Along the years, the Tuan Mong High School Scout Group grew in strength. In order to open up its membership to the public, the group sought the permission of the then Scout District Commissioner, Ms Goh to use " Stamford " to name the new Scout Open Group.
Hence, Stamford Scout Open Group Cum Dragon And Lion Dance Troupe was established in 1984. So the troupe's name has no link in any way to Stamford Primary School or Stamford Community Centre.
